Google Launches AdSense for Video
Google plans to launch a new program called AdSense for Video enabling Web publishers within the Google advertising network to make more money from their video clips and at the same time offering advertisers more choice in where they want their messages to appear. Last year, Google reported revenue earnings of $16.6 billion, a figure it aims to increase with its latest decision to capitalize on the increasing popularity of online video. Google AdSense for Video will start the program with about 20 partners’ Web sites, including the YuMe video advertising network that has over 400 Web sites and 150 million video streams, while also competing with other online video advertising networks like VideoEgg, among others. Google has been working on how to increase advertising revenue from online video since it acquired video sharing site YouTube in 2006. Microsoft and Yahoo also sell and deliver video ads to partner sites. Just last week, Yahoo paid $160 million to acquire Maven Networks, which is used by publishers like Fox News, CBS Sports and Gannett to show and distribute videos and ads on their Web sites.
