Microsoft Announcement
Signifying a shift in strategy, Microsoft has outlined a four part plan, discussed in a conference call earlier today, that will focus on opening connections to Microsoft products, including Microsoft Windows and Office suites, promoting data portability, increasing its support for industry standards, and engaging more closely with open source communities. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is quoted as saying, “Today’s announcement represents a significant expansion to greater transparency and interoperability.” Microsoft will publish more than 30,000 pages of Windows documentation and make it easily accessible to third party developers that Microsoft expects will open the door for opportunity and innovation.
Google Health And Cleveland Clinic Announce Pilot Project
Google has garnered what it considers a significant breakthrough in its efforts over the past 18 months to break into the field of consumer health information. Cleveland Clinic medical center has agreed to link the health information of up to 10,000 of its patients with Google personal health records in a pilot project. The Google personal health records will enable users to transfer medical information across clinic’s computers over a series of secure Web pages, giving patients more control and access to their medical information. Google’s personal health record program will be introduced publicly and made widely available after the pilot project has concluded.
An Internet service provider glitch in Kuwait has reportedly enabled more than one user of Google’s Gmail Web-based email program to access others’ Gmail accounts, including personal email messages and other highly confidential information. The problem appears to be due to a caching problem on certain ISP servers that is affecting not only Gmail users, but eBay users as well. eBay has stated the problem is fixed, while Google has supplied a workaround to the Kuwaiti ISP to remedy the problem.
Microsoft has invited its adCenter customers in the UK to sign up to take part in its ad Excellence program, including free training to help participants become what Microsoft claims are adCenter experts. The Microsoft program offers free training in preparation for taking the adExcellence exam that enables those that pass industry recognition along with the ability to improve return on investment managing adCenter accounts.
