China Search Engine Baidu Sued Again

Following a law suit against Baidu by three global record companies earlier this month, two industry groups, including The Music Copyright Society of China which represents China’s local musicians, singers and songwriters and China’s largest digital music distributor, R2G, have also filed a lawsuit against China’s Web search leader Baidu for copyright violation. Baidu has recently come under fire for practices allowing users to listen to and search for song files for free, while gaining advertising revenue from traffic as a result of the music download service.

CEO Scott B. Meyer Leaving the About.com Unit of The Times

About.com Chief Executive Scott Meyer announced Wednesday that he will be leaving the information and advice Web site owned by the New York Times on March 6th. The parting is said to be amicable, with Mr. Meyer leaving About.com after three years to look for a change, specifically for a position to run an independent digital business. Ron McCoy, who is the chief technology officer of the company’s About division, will run About.com on an interim basis. A spokeswoman for the company, Catherine Mathis, said it will look inside and outside for a replacement.

PayPal Warns: Security Issues With Apple's Safari Browser

Apple Macintosh computer and iPhone owners utilizing their default web browser Safari should beware that it may be lacking two important anti-phishing security features, according to PayPal which does not include Safari on its list of recommended browsers. The same holds true for Safari running on PC’s, PayPal said. Instead, PayPal recommends customers use Internet Explorer 7 or 8, Firefox 2 or 3, or Opera.
