Another Googler Executive Leaves For Facebook
The latest executive to resign from Google and join the ranks at Facebook is Google’s Director of Social Media Ethan Beard. He will join other ex-Googlers including newly appointed Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg, chief financial officer Gideon Yu, formerly of YouTube, and others. Beard joins Facebook as a Director of Business Development.
Yahoo Launches Daily Web Show "Primetime in No Time"
Yahoo has a launched a new daily Web show called, “Primetime in No Time,” which gives two to three minute video clips recapping what happened on television networks the night before. Yahoo uses a unique ad format, clickable from within the video screen, which is already performing at an average of 400 to 700 percent better than traditional banner and video ads, according to Yahoo. Yahoo hopes the new venture will help it garner more market share in the online video space, where it currently ranks third in the number of videos watched, garnering 3 percent of the market.
Microsoft Partners With Top Social Networking Sites
Microsoft has forged partnerships with five social networking sites, including Facebook, Bebo. Hi5, Tagged and LinkedIn to provide an easier, more secure way for people to access their contacts and relationships from more places on the Web, without compromising data at risk of phishing attacks, identity fraud, and spam under the current system that requires a work around used to share such data. The five social networking sites have agreed to adopt the Windows Live Contacts API, so that users can invite friends on their Windows Live contact lists to join their online social network at the sites, without having to hand over their Windows Live password. In return, Windows Live users will be able to invite friends using the five social-networking sites to join them on Windows Live Messenger in a similarly secure fashion at theInvite2MessengerWeb site. The move is intended to give users more control of their data, while also providing an easier way to connect with others.
