Yahoo Announces Release Of OneSearch 2.0

Yahoo has announced a new release to its mobile phone software, OneSearch, offering features to help users conduct faster, more efficient searches with search assist and voice enabled search. Together with speech-recognition company Vlingo, the voice enabled version of oneSearch will make searching for anything, including flight numbers, locations, Web site names and local restaurants easier. For easier access, Yahoo plans to integrate the search box right into the main screen available for mobile devices. Yahoo will also enable Web publishers to integrate the search program into their mobile sites, as they do with personal computer Web pages. Yahoo hopes the new features will help it better compete in the mobile search space, where it currently dominates with the most popular mobile applications.

Google To Cut 25% DoubleClick Jobs

Google is cutting 25%, or about 300 jobs from its American operations unit of DoubleClick, the advertising technology company that it acquired March 11th. The move is aimed at aligning DoubleClick employees with Google’s business strategy moving forward. Google also plans to sell Performics Search Marketing, a search engine marketing unit of DoubleClick, which will be run as a separate unit until a purchase is made. In addition to laying off some DoubleClick employees in the U.S., Google will place others in transitional roles, in which Google will offer contract positions. Google is also expected to make cuts internationally at a later date.
