Compete.com March Search Market Share Figures
According to data from Analytics measurement company Compete.com, the volume of Internet searches conducted in March increased to a record high month over month for the first time since last July, with total search queries increasing over 6% and surpassing the 9 billion mark. This time, Google, which saw a decline in search market share is not to credit for the growing numbers, but instead Microsoft Windows Live search queries saw the most growth in search volume with a 28.8% month over month increase. Of the top five search engines, Yahoo is the only one to see a year over year decline in market share. Ask remained flat while AOL search quieries continue to decline.
Nielsen Acquires Media Measurement Firm IAG Research For $225 Million
Market Research and Media Service company Nielsen will acquire IAG Research, a television and Internet audience research firm, for $225 million to strengthen its media business. IAG measures how consumers react to TV shows, commercials and product placements. It also has an Internet division, measuring online ad effectiveness and compiling information on the effectiveness of Internet campaigns for advertisers.
Facebook has begun a gradual rollout of its chat feature starting this past weekend, in a pre launch beta test, which will continue over the next few days. The new feature will be available in the form of a new chat bar at the bottom of Facebook member’s browser page. Along with the standard features that come with other Instant messenger services, Facebook chat is different in that it will incorporate mini-feed stories into IM conversations which will notify members of any activity or changes made by friends to chat users profile pages.
Chris Clark, of Maryland, has sold the domain name pizza.com for $2.6 million. He originally bought the domain name in 1994 when the World Wide Web was just starting and has paid $20 a year to maintain the domain, which he also used to sell advertisements.
