Yahoo Acquires IndexTools' Web Analytics Business

Yahoo has agreed to acquire Web Analytics company IndexTools, including its Web analytics business, technology, and its Tensa R&D subsidiary, for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition is meant to provide Yahoo marketing clients with additional insight and metrics to improve their online marketing efforts across the entire Yahoo network. The first group of customers to benefit from these enhanced tools will be more than 150,000 small-to-medium size businesses marketing on the Web with Yahoo. Yahoo next plans to expand the Web analytics service to third party developers, offering additional capabilities enabling them to monitor and optimize the traffic performance of their applications. The deal is expected to be completed before July.

Google Maps Offers View Of Refugee Camps

The Google Earth Mapping Service, launched three years ago and originally intended for highly realistic video games, is now being used to help governments and non profit organizations. Most recently Google Earth has worked with the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, to offer a close up view of U.N. refugee camps to aide humanitarian operations, raise awareness, recruit volunteers, and encourage donations. Users can download Google Earth software to see satellite images of refugee hot spots such as Darfur, Iraq and Colombia. Aid experts can add video interviews of refugees, photographs of displacement crises and educational text to the satellite backdrop to educate even casual users about unfolding crises. Google said it will provide nonprofit groups in several countries with training and free copies of its $400 professional mapping software.
