Consumer Groups Urge FTC To Create "Do Not Track" Registry

Two consumer groups including The Consumer Federation of America and the Consumers Union have urged the Federal Trade Commission to create a “do not track” list that would bar advertisers from collecting information from listed computer users, adding that health conditions and other sensitive issues should be made unavailable without consumers expressed consent. Advertisers have a preference for self regulation with regard to handling behavioral advertising, which depends on collected data for success.

Yahoo Served With $1 Million Click Fraud Lawsuit

Yahoo is facing a $1 million dollar law suit, filed by Bigreds.com, a company that sells collectibles online. Bigreds, which used pay per click advertising services operated by Yahoo, claims it was overcharged by thousands of dollars between 2002 and 2006 as a result of click fraud that Yahoo did little to prevent. Bigreds is seeking more than $1 million in damages and penalties for clicks it claims were from affiliate Web site operators, as opposed to actual customers, who received commissions each time the advertisement was clicked. Yahoo has yet to file a formal response to the allegations.
