Google Ranks As The World's Number One Brand, Worth $86 Billion

For the second consecutive year, Google has been named the most powerful brand in the world according to WPP-owned research company Millward Brown’s annual study of the world’s top 100 brands. The study measured a 30 percent increase in the value of Google’s brand year over year, which helped Google maintain its number one ranking, with an estimated brand value of $86 billion. Coming in second was General Electric, followed by Microsoft, Coca Cola, and China Mobile. Notably, Apple jumped to seventh place with a 123% year over year increase in brand value. Millward Brown takes into account the financial performance and brand value of companies when making its annual list.

AOL To Lay Off About 100 Positions In Platform A Unit

AOL began laying off workers last Friday in a move that will ultimately include about 100 positions from its Platform A advertising agency network. The AOL layoffs are part of an effort by Platform A’s new president Lynda Clarizio to overhaul the unit by creating a new leadership structure and unifying teams in certain areas, where there are redundancies in roles. The overhaul is part of a larger effort to consolidate the efforts of various ad acquisitions AOL has made over the past several months, including behavioral targeting ad network Tacoda, contextual advertiser Quigo, streaming media ad specialist Lightningcast, German online ad server Adtech, and mobile ad services provider Third Screen Media.
