Google Brand Image Ads For Cell Phones
Google will join Yahoo and AOL to offer graphical banner ads for mobile phones, providing ad publishers the flexibility to show text ads, graphical image ads, or a mix of both. The Google mobile ads will look like standard image ads for desktops, but are small enough to fit on a mobile phone screen and will run one at a time per mobile page to prevent clutter. The graphical mobile ads will run on Google’s content network, and are targeted according to the keywords users type into mobile phones while searching for information. The ads are priced on a cost-per-click basis, and require a link to Web pages optimized to work on mobile phones. This is the latest move by Google to extend beyond the computer-based Web market into the budding market for advertising on phones.
According to its Chief executive Steve Ballmer, Microsoft plans to phase out its Windows XP operating system by June 30, and cease licensing XP to computer makers and end retails sales. Ballmer also said that Microsoft would reconsider if customers expressed interest in keeping the Windows XP operating system, and added that so far they have not. The decision to drop XP would force users to switch to Microsoft’s Windows Vista Operating System, which requires faster central processing units installed only in newer machines, creating difficulties for some businesses such as IT departments which still working with older computers using XP. In response to the announcement, customers have launched a petition to save Windows XP, in which users can complete a form available at the Info World Web site, which Info World said it will pass on to Microsoft.
