Google Releases Advancements for Apple iPhone and iPod Touch
Google announced two new releases today for the iPhone and iPod Touch, starting with a new interface that lets Google Apps users easily access Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs and other Google services including Google Reader, Google Notebook, Google News and Blogger in over 33 new markets and 16 new languages. This is the latest advancement by Google aimed at staying ahead in the budding mobile Internet market. Google also announced that Google News is now available to iPhone and iPod Touch users in over 30 countries, providing a full fledged version of Google news on these Apple devices, and where available, relevant YouTube videos embedded with news stories.
Yahoo announced some new upgrades to its social news service Buzz, that it launched in February. The upgrades include a "Top Buzz" widget that Web publishers can embed on their sites to display the top articles in Yahoo Buzz or those from a specific Buzz category. There are also now RSS feeds for stories submitted to Buzz as well as each of its categories, and "First Buzzed By" indicators much like the "Submitted By" taglines on competitor Digg. Still in beta test form, Yahoo Buzz has sent 50 million referrals to a select group of online publishers including The Wall Street Journal, People and Us Weekly and has recently added sites including AskMen.com, ThePanelist.com and VentureBeat to the beta program.
