Google Adds Demographic Features To YouTube Analytics Tool

YouTube Insight video analytics tool gives YouTube content creators and partners access to information on viewing trends to know when to best upload videos to reach the most viewers. Advertisers are using the new information to study geographic traffic patterns in preparation for ad campaigns. YouTube has announced additional features for the Insight analytics service that offers aggregate information on the makeup of viewers. Located under the demographic tab, Insight users can viewership count broken down by age group, gender, or a combination of the two. Insight now also displays statistics based on the combined total views of all the videos a user uploads, making it easier to see the total number of views per account, and relative popularity compared to other users, based on geographic location.

AOL To Open Its Mail Sites To Third-party Applications

AOL has said it plans to later this year create a program that will allow third-party developers to develop applications and content for its e-mail sites. The applications, called panels, will be included on AOL’s mail sites in various countries and give users the option to choose a variety of content, and integrate AOL mail with popular applications in local markets. The move marks AOL’s step toward offering its users more options and the ability to benefit from a customized experience, by embracing competitor offerings.
