Microsoft Live Search Cashback Program
Microsoft is expected today to announce its “Live Search cashback” service at its annual Advance 08 search conference for online advertisers. Microsoft’s cash back service gives consumers money back on select items purchased through Microsoft's live.com Web site. An icon adjacent to products returned via Live search signifies an item is available for cashback savings. This is the latest effort by Microsoft to try and lure customers to its Internet search service, in which it trails behind number one Google and number two Yahoo. The debut of the service also follows Microsoft's recent attempt to buy Yahoo as a step to expand its share of the Internet search and online advertising market. Microsoft’s search and advertising strategy, being outlined at Advance 08, appears to be three-fold. First, Microsoft will continue its push into online advertising, with acquisitions, partnerships and new technologies. Second, the company will build its online presence to lure advertisers. And third, Microsoft will continue pouring resources into search to gain a better foothold in the search ad business.
Google will now layer it Google News service onto Google Earth via an application that provides a stream of constantly updated and indexed stories accessible on a national, regional, and local level from over 4,500 news sources. The Google News stories are represented by an icon made visible by activating the Google News layer feature.
