Russian Search Leader Yandex Set For Massive 2008 IPO

Russia’s leading search engine firm Yandex, founded in 2000, is reportedly set for a massive Initial Public Offering this Fall, which could raise up to $2 billion, and value the company at $5 billion. The high price comes as a result of Yandex leading with 47% of the search market in Russia, in the same way Google dominates in the U.S.

Opera New Software Developer Kit For Widget Development’

Norwegian company Opera has today released a software developer kit for widget developers to easily execute Web applications on a range of devices that support the Opera browser, including desktops, Windows Mobile and Symbian cell phones with Opera Mobile and on the Nintendo Wii. The Opera widget SDK was designed on W3C standards to support CSS, JavaScript, Ajax, and HTML languages. The Opera Widgets SDK is equipped with tools, libraries, documentation and examples on how to make Opera Widgets for different devices.

Yahoo Japan To Reach High-def TV Screens In Japan

Yahoo Japan on May 29th will launch a version of its Web portal for high definition televisions screens. The service is called Yahoo Japan for Aquos, is specific to Japan, and is limited to people that own Internet capable televisions made by Sharp. Although, Higher-end television sets in Japan have for several years featured the ability to connect to the Internet, this marks the first time consumers will have access to the Internet through televisions that will deliver an HD quality picture.
