Microsoft Windows Live Mobile Updates
Microsoft has announced two updates to it Windows Live Mobile service, including the release of a new version of its Windows Live Mobile homepage in beta test form. The Windows Live Mobile homepage offers new features including the “What’s new” summary, that shows recent updates made by friends, the ability to query Live Search direct from the homepage, as well as easy access to other mobile Windows Live services like mail, messenger, and spaces. Microsoft also announced that users of its Windows Live Messenger and Windows Live Hotmail services will now see display advertisements on their mobile phones for the first time. Those using Windows Live Search on mobile phones will also see advertisements that target users on the go. This marks the first time that Microsoft has enabled advertisers to monetize its mobile search service.
AOL, aiming to capitalize on the growing popularity of online video viewing, will launch versions of its video service in Canada, India, and Taiwan over the course of the next month. By Fall, AOL will also introduce versions of its video portal, AOL Video, in the United Kingdom, France and Germany, The move is part of a global expansion plan by AOL, and also in effort to position itself as a free advertising supported Web site. The AOL video service is built upon AOL’s video search technology, Truveo, which has indexed, or searched and sorted related information on more than 170 million videos in 16 countries including: Russia, Hong Kong, Germany and France. AOL will compete against Google’s YouTube and MySpace Video in global markets where similar services have already recently been launched.
