TinEye Image Search Engine Startup Firm
Image search engine startup TinEye, currently in private beta test form, lets users upload an image or paste in the URL to an image to a search box and returns information on where and how the image appears across the Web. TinEye uses image identification technology to find and index images across the Web and works even if the image has been modified, cropped, made into black and white, or photoshopped. Launched earlier this month, TinEye has indexed close to 750 million images on the Web, and is expected to reach close to 1 billion by next month. Google, in comparison, is estimated to have indexed between 4 to 6 billion images. The image search algorithms that power TinEye were developed by Toronto based Idée, which already offers its services to a roster of well known companies including the Associated Press, Getty Images and Digg.

Microsoft has announced the addition of Exchange Labs hosted email service as part of it’s Live@edu package offered free for university students and alumni. Microsoft Live@edu includes Windows Live Hotmail, Windows Live Messenger, Microsoft Office Live Workspace and Windows Live SkyDrive online storage, which lets users share documents and photos. Microsoft Live@edu package and the newly added Exchange Labs hosted email service serves as an alternative to the education editions of Google Apps and Yahoo's Zimbra e-mail service.
