Google Site Search Service Updated For Enterprise

Google is upgrading an existing service it offers businesses and government to customize the search results that visitors see when they search within their site. The Google Site Search Service, previously named the Custom Search Business Edition, gives site owners the ability to provide previously untracked pages deep inside their site, versus the same search results available by searching on Google.com. The Google Web-hosted service, aims to help businesses improve the search quality of their sites, and sets itself apart from similar services by not requiring site owners to install and manage their search software in-house. Other features give site administrators the ability to add their own customized terminology, allowing users to search on site-specific or industry specific terms. In addition, the product now gives site owners more options to affect how search results are ranked and listed. The Google Site Search service can also be fully customized to the look and feel of the owners Web site.

Wikia Search Launches User Modifiable Search Engine

Wikia announced the re-launch of its Wikia search engine in Alpha version, which aims to let users fully edit and refine search results, to produce evolved results for everyone conducting a search moving forward. Editing options enable users to move search results up or down in listings, by rating it to influence the listing position on the page. Also is the ability to completely delete entries or hand write new ones. Users can also rewrite the text of a search result, including adding code to the result to enhance the listing. The engine will start with a subset of about 30 million machine indexed pages, that Wikia Search users can start to modify. The company, has reportedly claimed 20,000 users have registered, 25,000 mini-articles have been created, and 60,000 edits have been processed to-date.
