NASA & Google Announce Lease At Ames Research Center
Google and NASA have made plans to expand their existing relationship to work side for at least the next 40 years, with an option to extend the collaboration to a total of 90 years. The announcement is part of an expansion plan to build a new 42 acre, high technology Google campus at NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View California. The development will consist of mainly office and research and development space, but will also include company housing and amenities such as dining, sports, fitness, child care, conference and parking facilities for Google employees, as well as recreation, parking facilities and infrastructure improvements for NASA's use. The announcement further cements the collaboration between Google and NASA, which dates back to 2005 when the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding. Other collaborations between Google and NASA include the Planetary Content project, the development of Google Moon, enhancements to Google Earth, the Global Connection project, and the natural disaster alert Disaster Response project.
Yahoo announced the release of its Address Book Application Programming Interface that gives developers access to users address books on the Web when building applications. Yahoo will join Google and Microsoft, which launched their own Contact API’s in March, to move toward a more open strategy lending outside developers open access to Yahoo sites, online services and Web applications, along with giving users a social profile dashboard to unify and manage their Yahoo services. With the Address Book API, users will no longer have to provide their log in data, and any changes made to a persons address book will be updated automatically. Prior to the official launch of Yahoo Address Book API yesterday, the API was only available to select partners including Plaxo and LinkedIn
