Yahoo SearchMonkey Unveils Search Gallery Of Applications

Following the public launch of SearchMonkey, Yahoo is today rolling out a second phase with the release of Yahoo Search Gallery, available by clicking the “Customize” dropdown option from any search results page and giving users the ability to view and add apps built on the SearchMonkey platform by developers, site owners, and Yahoo. Today also marks the first day that developers and site owners can begin sharing applications, regardless of whether they've been approved for the gallery, via an external link.

Microsoft Search and Give Rolls Out Upgrades, Hopes To Lure Live Search Users

Microsoft hopes to further leverage the power of giving to charity to increase users to its Live Search service, with the expansion of its Search and Give charitable search program that donates one cent per search to local schools and non profits. Microsoft Search and Give now provides user the ability to donate to a charity of choice, with a maximum of 500 searches per user per month and has expanded to include 1 million participating organizations. Last year the Search and Give program raised more than $250,000 for local schools and non profits.

MySpace and Yahoo Breach Raises Questions Regarding Internet Privacy

A recent incident in which private MySpace pictures of celebrities Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton were accessed and released, along with details of the breach, raises new questions over the meaning and expectation of privacy on the Internet. One source blamed data portability, the concept underlying the sharing of data between social networks and other sites. However, according to MySpace, the API was to blame for the breach. According to research by the Press Complaints Commission, 89 percent, or 9 out of 10 people surveyed expressed there should be tighter regulation of information on social networking websites, along with an established set of standard rules to help prevent personal information being abused.
