Google Signs Partnership With Tele Atlas For Access To Maps
As Apple gears up for next weeks release of the Apple iPhone 3G equipped with GPS capabilities, and Nokia recently purchased U.S. map-maker Navtaq and location-based social network, Plazes, its now Google’s turn to make moves with regards to location based services to be offered on its Android operating system. Google has signed a five year deal with Dutch digital map maker Tele Atlas to gain access to its maps for inclusion on current and new Google map-based services and navigation offerings across mobile, online and desktop platforms. The move by Google and others suggests the demand for mobile global positioning satellite services are on the rise.
Maxim Magazine Leaves Yahoo, Switches To Search From Quintura
Maxim Digital, the fastest growing family of websites and mobile properties for young men, including Maxim.com, Blender.com and Stuffmagazine.com has forgone its partnership with Yahoo to form a new distribution deal with semantic search engine Quintura in which the interactive site search engine will power the search for Maxim Digital’s web properties. Quintura’s search interface creates a semantic tag cloud above the results. By clicking on different tags, users can refine their search and reorder the results, which can appeal to publishers by keeping users on a site longer while helping them find exactly what they are looking for.
Social content conversation site FriendFeed has released a new version of its site optimized for the iPhone that features increased font sizes, an easier-to-use navigation bar and a bigger space to post directly to the site, as well as the ability to mail photos from a phone to FriendFeed using the Mail2FF application. FriendFeed hopes to make gains on rival Twitter in the online social content conversation space by making the site more accessible to mobile users.
