Google Rolls Out New Services For Mobile Devices

Google has released a version of its Google Talk instant messaging service designed specifically for the Apple iPhone and iPhone Touch, accessible through the iPhone’s Safari browser. By visiting google.com/talk users can sign in and start using the service immediately. The only thing that sets the mobile version apart from the desktop version is when a user navigates away from the Google Talk application, the session will end, changing the users status to unavailable. In other mobile news, Google is currently testing a voice enabled search feature for Google Maps, which is supported on a select group of Blackberry Pearl devices.

Virgin Media, Along With BPI Fights Online Music Piracy

Virgin Media has sent over 800 warning letters to customers in the UK in attempt to stop illegal downloading and sharing of music files on the Internet. Along with the BPI, the body that represents the UK record industry, Virgin Media is running a 10 week campaign to warn customers that copyright infringement is illegal and can lead to the cancellation of Internet service. The move is part of a three strikes policy established by the BPI, in which ISP providers agree to disconnect the Internet service of users who continue to illegally share copyrighted files after receiving two warnings. So far only Virgin Media has officially signed up for the three strikes policy, but for now it is running an education-only campaign and not throwing anyone off the network.

TokBox Brings Video To Facebook IM Chat

Online Video Chat Tool TokBox has created an add-on for Facebook that lets users start a video chat directly from the Facebook chat tool. So long as a user is equipped with a webcam and computer microphone, a video conversation can be started immediately without having to download anything or complete a lengthy signup process.
