YouTube Will Hand Over Anonymized Information In Viacom Suit
So the story goes. Viacom sued Google’s YouTube for $1 million over claims of copyright infringement and said that it needed specific data to demonstrate video piracy patterns that are the heart of its case against YouTube. A judge ordered Google on July 1 to divulge the data requested, including the usernames of YouTube viewers along with their viewing history and computer addresses for use in the case. Privacy advocates were up in arms over the threat to expose deeply private information. Now privacy advocates and consumers can relax since Viacom and the class action group have come to an agreement to let Google anonymize YouTube user data to protect the privacy of millions of YouTube watchers during evidence discovery.
One outstanding disagreement between the two parties is on how to handle the YouTube viewership data of YouTube and Google employees, which the presiding Judge also had ordered YouTube to turn over as part of the July 1 ruling covering YouTube consumers.
Microsoft Partners With Netflix, To Stream Movies & TV On Xbox 360
Microsoft and Netflix have formed an exclusive partnership to give consumers the option to access Netflix online to stream movies and tv shows on the TV screen at home via Microsoft’s Xbox 360 video game and entertainment console. At no additional cost to paying Netflix subscribers, more than 10,000 movies and TV episodes are included for viewing. The program is set for launch in late fall and will be available to Xbox LIVE Gold members who are also Netflix subscribers and will let those users enjoy streaming movies from Netflix on Xbox LIVE at no additional cost. The announced partnership supports the notion that gaming consoles are increasingly becoming entertainment hubs with videos and music.
