Social Search Engine Scour.com Launches, Offers Incentives to Contribute
In trying to set itself apart, social search engine Scour gives users the ability to search and find results from leading search engines Google, Yahoo and MSN on one page, and to filter results to include only videos or only images, while also incorporating users votes and comments on any search result, which grants users the power to influence search rankings. As an incentive to attract users and encourage activity on the site, Scour offers users Visa Reward points for searching, commenting, voting, and for inviting friends to the site. Points add up to dollars on a Visa gift card. The concepts surrounding Scour are not entirely original, yet Scour is hopeful it can bring together the elements better than other rival search engines on the market.
Delver's Social Graph Search Engine Now Open To Public
Social graph search engine Delver is launching to the public in Alpha test form today. Delver aims to discover knowledge and information hidden in a user’s social graphs, including publicly displayed content that comes from various online services like MySpace, Blogger, Flickr, YouTube and FriendFeed to ultimately deliver tailored search results. Delver maps the social connections it discovers on the web and incorporates its findings when performing web searches. Thus instead of providing generic results to users, Delver provides results influenced by a persons network for a more personal experience. Another feature Delver offers is what it calls “search buddies”, wherein users can distinguish certain friends and prioritize results from their networks higher than others, giving trusted and valued information sources more weight than others. With an excess number of search engine services available, Delver aims to gain traction by offering search engine results based on personal knowledge, something that even Google has said is a mostly untapped, yet important component of search.
