Yahoo Brings Success To Local Newspaper Consortium Websites

Yahoo today announced that it is responsible for driving 100 million visits to its 779 local newspapers that make up its Newspaper Consortium of Web sites. By providing headlines to Yahoo for inclusion on a range of Yahoo properties including the top-ranked Yahoo! Homepage, Yahoo! News, Yahoo! Finance and Yahoo! Sports, as well as across Yahoo! Mobile and on Yahoo! Messenger, Consortium member sites benefit from traffic coming directly from links on those Yahoo property sites and in turn Yahoo users benefit from the local perspective that the Newspaper Consortium members provide. One important element leading to the success of the Consortium sites has been Yahoo Buzz, which is responsible for measuring several variables, including user votes and search popularity to identify interesting and timely stories to be considered for primary editorial placement.

Microsoft To Bring Live Search To Vehicles

Microsoft wants to bring search capabilities to vehicles with the release of Live Search for Devices, that will allow partners to develop web search applications for in vehicle use. Carmakers can choose among options including voice commands and an in-car screen, or both, to give drivers access to the Live Search engine in cars and other vehicles. Microsoft Live search partners include the White Pages and Yellow Pages to provide users up to date information on places of interest. The move is part of Microsoft’s plan to expand its Automotive Business Unit to include services in addition to software.
