Voice Recognition For Keywords On YouTube

As online video sharing continues to grow in popularity, the massive amount of content on the Web makes it increasingly more difficult for users to find specific videos they are looking for. Video sharing website YouTube is testing a voice recognition feature that enables users to type in a search query that would relay all videos that include the search term. The feature works by using voice recognition to convert words into metadata that are then embedded in the video to make videos more searchable. The search feature is limited to political videos on the YouTube You Choose video page, but gives an idea about the opportunity it brings. By adding the Elections Video Search Gadget to the iGoogle page or as a standalone page, users can see the speech recognition feature in action. Google joins smaller competitive rivals Blinkx and EveryZing in utilizing speech to text technologies to make video content easier to search and watch.

Zscaler Launches Today, Offers Filtering Service In The Cloud

Santa Clara based start-up company Zscaler, set to launch today, offers companies a cloud based security service that acts like a Web proxy, intercepting all incoming and outbound HTTP traffic from employees and filtering it for malware and online activity that violates company policy. Zscaler gives network managers control to create a framework for policies including detailed restrictions on what kind of sites employees can visit and when. The service provides antivirus and antispyware, and can block the activity of bots, peer-to-peer networks, malicious content and phishing, according to Zscaler. The service also provides detailed traffic reports that reveal who is spending the most time on certain websites, overall habits of employees and the ability to compare findings to other companies. Zscaler will compete with other security-in-the-cloud firms like ScanSafe and Message Labs which are also targeting this market. The subscription service is charged on a monthly basis and fees range from $1 to $5 per user per month based on the number of users and number of services subscribed.
