Time Warner Confirms Plans To Split AOL
Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes confirmed a decision with regards to what the company wants to do with its poorly performing AOL unit. As expected, AOL’s dial up Internet business will be split from its advertising and content business to form two separate divisions by 2009, making the possibility of a merger or sale of one of the two divisions more feasible. The question remains as to whether or not Time Warner will get rid of AOL altogether. Reportedly Time Warner has been in talks to combine the AOL advertising business to either Yahoo or Microsoft, while EarthLink recently expressed that it may be interested in buying the dial-up business.
