Wikia Evolution Toolbar Builds Wikia Search Service

Open Source Wikia Search engine has debuted Wikia evolution, a Firefox add-on that lets users contribute to Wikia search from anywhere on the Web. The Wikia evolution toolbar lets users rate and “add” search results to the Wikia Search index directly from Google and Yahoo search results. Enabling users to easily interact with Wikia search without having to be at the Wikia Search site itself, the toolbar lets users add URLs to the Wikia index, associate keywords or search terms with URLs and edit or annotate the descriptions and titles of those pages from any webpage by way of the evolution toolbar. In what appears to be a smart move, Wikia is leveraging the information and users associated with already established search engines to build its service from the ground up.
