Pew Search Engine Use Study
New information according to a report from PEW Internet & American Life Project reveals search engine use is on the rise, noting the percentage of Internet users who use search engines on a typical day has been steadily rising from about one third of all users in 2002 to a new high of nearly 50 percent. The daily activity of searching the Internet is nearing the 60 percent of Internet users who use email, the most widely used Internet application, on a typical day. In the six year span between January 2002 and May 2008, search use increased by 69%, while Email use grew only 15% during the same period. Other popular daily Internet activities include checking the news, which 39 percent of users do on a typical day, 30 percent check the weather, 29 percent research a hobby, 28 percent surf the Web for fun, and 13 percent use social networking sites.
