American Airlines Launches In-Flight Internet Access On Coast To Coast Flights
American Airlines, in collaboration with Aircell, will today begin offering in flight broadband Internet access on domestics flights between New York and San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles, and New York and Miami, making it the first U.S. airline to offer full in-flight broadband to passengers. At a cost of $12.95 per one way, passengers on Boeing 767-200 aircraft can now connect to check e-mail, surf the Web, tap into an office network and stay current on the latest news. Other airlines, including Delta which has plans to roll out broadband Wi-Fi access for its entire domestic mainline fleet of more than 330 planes starting this month, along with Southwest airlines and JetBlue airways, have plans to be pioneers in what is expected by experts to be a common offering by airlines in the future.
