Google Suggest Graduates: Set As Default On Google Hompage
Google yesterday announced that over the next few weeks, Google Suggest, a feature that helps users auto complete search queries, is graduating from Google Labs, where it was previously dubbed keyword suggestions while in experimental phase, and will now be available by default on the Google.com homepage. Google outlines common ways Google Suggest helps make the execution of searches faster and more efficient, starting with offering assistance to help formulate queries based on the most popular searches, like for example, when a user can’t quite remember the title of a popular book or a song. Google Suggest is also quick to offer alternative suggestions on potential miss pelt words, thus reducing the incidence of searching on erroneous queries. Saving users valuable time, the Google Suggest feature eliminates the need to type out certain longer search queries by doing the work for you. Google Suggest started as a "20 per cent project" in 2004, 20 percent is the amount of time Google provides its employees to work on alternative projects, and has subsequently been used in Google Labs, Toolbar, Firefox search box, Maps and web search for select countries, the iPhone, BlackBerry and YouTube.
