Mozilla Launches Ubiquity Browser Plug-in
Mozilla on Tuesday released a free experimental Firefox plug in called Ubiquity aimed at enhancing the Web experience by connecting the Web with language to make common web tasks easier for users. In technology terms, The free Firefox plug-in enables the creation of user-generated mashups with existing open Web APIs. In other words, the free Firefox plug-in enables a user to, for instance, create an email that incorporates actual maps, relevant reviews within the body of the email and more, without having to navigate away from the page, or copy and paste related links as usual. With the Ubiquity Firefox plug-in, the power to remix the Web, previously only accessible to Web developers, is now available to everyone. To demonstrate the concepts brought forth by Ubiquity and to highlight the possibilities, Mozilla has released a Ubiquity 0.1 prototype. Other mashup ideas highlighted include the ability to easily map Craigslist apartment listings on command without having to map each listing individually, translate text directly from a webpage, and find out and share information more easily, just to name a few.
