Google Expands Wireless Push With New AdSense For Mobile Search Program
Google has expanded its wireless services lineup with a new revenue-sharing program called AdSense for Mobile Search, offering mobile publishers and carriers a co-branded Google search box for their mobile Web properties.

Mountain View, California-based Internet search leader Google has expanded its wireless services lineup with a Google AdSensenew revenue-sharing program called AdSense for Mobile Search, offering mobile publishers and carriers a co-branded Google search box for their mobile Web properties. Google launched the new program Tuesday in a test format open to customers who apply and are selected at the discretion of the search giant.

The new mobile search revenue-sharing program expanded on a Google AdSense contextual advertising network that first moved into the mobile arena in September 2007, when it launched its AdSense for mobile contentGoogle AdSense For Mobile Search initiative.

"AdSense for mobile search is a quick and easy way for carriers and mobile publishers to embed a Google search box on their mobile portals and web sites," Google mobile product manager Yury Pinsky wrote in a message announcing the new program posted Tuesday on the Google mobile blog.

The AdSense for Mobile Search program was designed to let mobile content providers and carriers share revenue generated when users visit partner mobile Web sites and click on AdSense advertising, Google said. "Mobile operators and Web site owners share in the ad revenue generated by searches originating from their sites," Pinsky noted in the Tuesday message. Whether online publishers will choose to widely adopt the new Google AdSense offshoot mobile program, which could cause site visitors to leave partnering mobile Web sites through the search box, remained to be seen.

Google said that the new program would benefit partners by allowing them to combine their company logo with Google's on a co-branded mobile search page, while mobile carriers would gain by having the bulk of the search processing done on Google's own remote servers.

"Results pages are served by Google, the pages can be co-branded with publishers' logos and linked back to their sites," Pinsky said.

Google did not reveal details about when the new AdSense service would move from the test stage announced Tuesday and become available to the public.SearchEngineWorld

Google did provide a link to an online form where interested mobile network operators and mobile Web site owners could apply to enter the test program, however Pinsky said that Google could not guarantee that all applicants would be accepted.

The new program, which will allow partners to provide mobile searching of Google's local, news and image content, was the latest from Google as it sought to solidify its position in the rapidly growing mobile community, where along with Yahoo it has already gained a significant share of mobile users.
