Google Just Changed How Search Works and Hardly Anyone Noticed

Google has started rolling out a new plus button in Search that lets users upload images and documents directly into AI search results. The feature enables people to search with photos, PDFs, and files to become the input, not just text.

Users can now ask follow up questions about a document, an image, or a screenshot and get synthesized responses instead of links. That shifts visibility away from query matching and toward how well your content can be summarized by AI systems.

The takeaway is straightforward. Structured documents, clean PDFs, readable charts, and image context now matter more than ever. Search is moving upstream in the discovery process, and brands that treat files as first class content assets, not afterthoughts, will have a better chance of showing up when users search with something in hand instead of a keyboard.
