Google is updating how URLs appear in mobile search results to provide a cleaner and more streamlined look. Breadcrumbs, previously part of the “site hierarchy” feature, will no longer display on mobile search results due to space constraints on smaller screens. This change is rolling out globally across all languages and regions where Google Search is available.
On desktop, URLs will still show the domain and breadcrumb.
On mobile, URLs will now display only the domain.
Breadcrumb markup remains supported for desktop results, and related tools like the Search Console’s breadcrumb rich result report and the Rich Results Test continue to function. This update aims to simplify navigation for mobile users.
Widely speculated that Google is charting a course to remove urls from Serps entirely. They have been slowly reducing the footprint of offsite links to push more users into Google owned entities and AI clickless Serps.
