Google Testing AI Mode in Search - Machine Eats the Machine

As we have been predicting all year, Googles insufferable march to the AI Dystopian future continues.

Tech Crunch is reporting that Google is experimenting with an integrated search experience on mobile - combining its quick-summary AIO with its chat-style “AI Mode.”

Instead of choosing between a fast snapshot or opening a separate chat tab, users can now press “Show more” on an overview and jump directly into a conversational interface, complete with an “Ask anything” prompt.

The idea is to make search look less like a two-stage process and more like a natural back-and-forth: start with a summary, then drill down deeper without leaving the page.

Under the hood this leverages the same AI brain powering AI Mode (the Gemini AI), which is being positioned as the next evolution of search — one that adapts to simple queries and complex explorations alike.

For users, this could make finding detailed answers faster and more intuitive. For publishers, it may further reduce traffic from traditional click-throughs, since AI-generated answers may satisfy many questions directly
