Gmail is phasing out two legacy features that have long helped users consolidate their email. Starting January 2026, Gmailify and POP-based Check mail from other accounts will no longer be supported.
Gmailify let Yahoo, Outlook.com, and other non-Gmail users enjoy Gmail’s spam filtering, categorized inbox, and mobile push notifications while keeping their original address. POP fetching, meanwhile, pulled messages from third-party accounts into Gmail so everything appeared in one inbox.
Google says the change is driven by upcoming security and infrastructure updates. Translation: they don't need to care about any other email services but Gmail - so they all can pound sand.
What happens next?
- Mobile users: Add the outside account directly in the Gmail app (Android/iOS). It uses standard IMAP, so mail stays in sync.
Desktop users: Turn on automatic forwarding at your other provider instead of letting Gmail poll it. - Workspace customers: Admins can migrate legacy mail into Google Workspace with Google’s data-migration tool.
For now you can still read and send mail from other addresses inside Gmail—you just need to set it up differently. Act now to avoid any gaps in delivery.
