The Google Circus comes to town this week and we’ve said it before, nobody Spams like Google! So lets kickback and watch as the Google PR clown car will be fully loaded and ready to deliver a massive scale of stories before, during, and after Google I/O.
While we wait – some stuff we are tracking (stop back for updates):
- 15:30pest) Gen Z is turning to TikTok, not Google, when they need answers
- 12:30est) btw: Microsoft Build 2025 begins tonight Where to watch keynote
- 11:30est) How Google Can Control and Manipulate Public Opinion
- (9:45est) CERT-In Warns of High-Risk Vulnerabilities in Google Chrome: Update Now
- (9:25est) The Verge – How to Watch IO
- Sequoia interview on Ai with Jeff Dean and his comments on the death of middle level programmers.
- Sundar Picahai on a podcast. Very little of substance other than an admission they had zero response for TikTok:
“We we uh did shorts when we launched shorts. Shorts absolutely didn’t monetize anywhere near long form, but we just leaned into the user experience and over time and we figured out monetization to follow. “
In other words, they used the monopoly power of Google to force feed young kids shorts until they worked. Bluntly, every parent in the world hates them for it. Just a brief sample of thousands upon thousands of messages from parents (Where or where is the main stream press here!? Looking at you Verge, Cnet, NYT, WaPo.):
- Children under 10 shouldn’t be able to access YouTube Shorts.
- The Dark Side of YouTube Reels: A Threat to the Cognitive Development of Children
- I’m Sorry But I Just Can’t Deal With YouTube Shorts
- Here are thousands (must be 5k related posts) of parents pleading with Google – on Googles own site – to block Youtube shorts. Again let Googles silence on this be deafening.
Parents continue to be upset with Google for not giving them ways to block Shorts.
