I knew it was too good to be true. OpenAI is using Common Crawl db - we knew this. What we didn't know, is that Common Crawl uses some Google at times. There are still some mysteries to be solved.

It was just in May that we learned that OpenAI had approached Google about using Google results for SearchGPT. Google said no:

Aleyda Solis shared a screen shot on Bksy from a French SEO, Data and Growth newsletter by Alexis Rylko.
It puts forth the question, "is OpenAI using Google now" instead of Bing? At first this seems preposterous, but upon closer examination, it seems plausible. ChatGPT - with Search button pressed - is repeatedly producing very close references to the same results on Google Serps.
Compare the two below - left Google - right OpenAI.
Compare the above results for "horse riding near dallas tx". Man they are close in every way. And not even close to Bing. Unfortunatly a screen shot of Bing doesn't do it justice because they are adding so much stuff to the Serps. Between AI Generations, maps, multiple boxes of related searches, tabs, accordions, videos, and other noise it is hard to even see results.
